I can recommend Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe with zero reservations. It’s a fantastic place with great food and great atmosphere.
Bev and I visited there this past fall on our trip to Alaska. I have to say I love Alaska. The nature, the freedom, the wildlife, and places like the Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe with its own unique style and personality.
We got breakfast there, and we were not disappointed at all. I had a bagel with creme cheese that was big enough to feed a horse, and Bev had a bagel with heated peanut butter that was melty. She said that was the BEST bagel she has ever had. I know mine was delicious.
If you’re in the Talkeetna area I highly encourage you to stop by and check this place out. In addition to everything they have there they also have wood fired pizza nights.
It would be impossible to have a hot brick oven and not use it for crisp-bottomed gourmet pizza! Join them for pizza nights on Fridays and Saturdays all winter, 4 to 8 p.m. They design new pizza specials each week based on what’s fresh and what they have on hand featuring Alaska Grown ingredients as much as possible. I love the local sourcing for their pizzas. That makes it a real Alaskan pizza.
According to their website, Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe, located three miles out of town on the Talkeetna Spur, is open year-round with expanded hours during the summer months. In addition to our warm, inviting dining room, almost everything is available for takeout, and we have a small outdoor seating area surrounded by local forest. A trail out the back door leads to Talkeetna Lakes Park, just a 10-minute walk or ski.
According to their Facebook page, Flying Squirrel Bakery Café is a deli-style eatery located in Talkeetna, Alaska serving all kinds of delicious sweets and hearty, wholesome foods for eat-in or take-out throughout the morning, afternoon and evening. A variety of pastries, freshly baked brick oven breads and creative savory items are available to locals and visitors year round. Wood fired pizza nights, organic espresso, Alaska grown, special brunches, holiday treats, special orders, wedding cakes and catering are some of Flying Squirrel’s specialties.
